AFTER
HOURS: 502-245-7337 [PEDS]
Monday
- Friday: 5 pm to 7:59 am, Saturday after 12
PM, and All Day Sunday
1. If you have a true
Medical Emergency*, dial 911
first!
2. If you need to
reach the "On Call Doctor" for an
Urgent Medical
Situation*, you
just need to call the regular office number
and follow the directions given on the
pre-recorded message. (There may be some
long pauses between the prompts, but as long
as you don't hear a dial tone you are still
connected and will be able to leave a
message!)
Your
call should be returned within 20 minutes,
unless we are on the line with another
patient. If there is no call back after 50
minutes, please call back and leave another
message.
(Rule
of thumb ... if it is an *Emergency,
20 minutes is TOO LONG to wait, *Urgent
means it could wait for a call back within
the hour, but can't wait until the office
opens.)
Please note: We prefer
to not use a generic answering service and currently
take our own after hour calls. This means that you
will speak with one of the two physicians instead of
an intermediate service or nurse. That being said,
we strongly encourage you to try and call during
regular office hours if at all possible! We do not
want to discourage calls that are necessary,
but we also cannot afford to be tied up with
phone calls that could be better handled
when we are actually in the office!
If your call is determined to
not be urgent in nature, or doesn't result in
an actual office visit within the next 48 hours, we
reserve the right to charge for this service, using
the guidelines set forth by the insurance companies.
Other
Tips:
*Most insurances now offer free nurse triage
numbers to call, as do the hospitals, and
many medication related questions can be
answered by a pharmacist.
